Cairn Systems is a Canadian company based in Kelowna, British Columbia. It makes one thing, and the person who built it uses it every day.
Who built it
Trevor Miller runs a wealth advisory practice. Cairn started as the tool he couldn't buy: something that tracked what the practice owed, not what the portfolios returned. What's due before a meeting. What's missing from a file. Who owns the follow-up. He designed it, built it, and runs his own client meetings on it every week. Every screen on this site is one he uses.
Why a cairn
Walk far enough on a mountain trail and you'll find one: a stack of stones, balanced by someone who came through before you. It doesn't tell you where to go. It tells you that you're still on the path, that someone did this properly, and that the way ahead is marked.
That's the job. A practice moves fast and the people in it change. Cairn is the stack of stones that says what was done, what was decided, and what comes next, so whoever picks up the file, including you next quarter, doesn't have to guess.
How to say it
One syllable: kern. Rhymes with learn, starts with a hard K. The Scots, who invented both the word and the stones, say it that way, and so do we.
Not Karen. Karen would like to speak to the manager. Cairn already has the meeting prepped.
